“Il Vescovo” Farmhouse
« Here I feel good, even very good, because it is here that is better living.
In my geography it is written that between Catanzaro
and the sea lie the gardens of the Hesperides. »
“Il Vescovo” Farmhouse is a terrace on the Ionian Sea. It is located within the farm of Vincenzo Grimaldi, a farmer from Belcastro (CZ), 4 km far from the sea and just 20 km from Pre-Sila spurs, between the beds of the rivers Crocco and Nasari, immersed in the scent of orange blossom and the charm of the olive trees.
The farm, unique in its location, lies between the sweetness of the Ionian Sea and the scents of the pre-mountain valley. It joins rural uses and the genuineness of a stay on a human scale, coming back to the roots at a short distance from the present.
The farmhouse offers a pleasant stay to both mountain and sea lovers and it wants to give a different offer of holiday, alternating the country hospitality, among citrus and olive groves, with a dip in the azure waters of the Ionian Sea and mountain walks between chestnut and fir trees.
Here you can deal with an original setting where everything is at hand, from sea to the hills, and the ecosystem gradually leaves room for the chestnut forests and the flora and fauna of the "Lesser Sila", reaching Mancuso Village and Buturo valleys and looking towards Gariglione (1765 meters) and Femminamorta Mounts (1723 meters), between Passante and Pollino Lakes.
CULTURE - NATURE - FOOD - LOCAL PRODUCTS become, along with hospitality, the ‘visiting card’ for a holiday away from the daily grind.
The organic farm covers 100 hectares and produces cereals, vegetables, olives and citrus.
More than one colour and flavour for each season, with tasting of local products, handmade jams and preserves, salami and extra virgin olive oil.
The property, which is situated on a hill, dates back to the '30s. Originally it was a war emplacement with a fort attached (blockhouse). Later it had been used as a barn and farmers’ dwelling and as the seat of a rural school.
